Russian businessman Alex Konanykhin has put a $1 million bounty on Russian President Vladimir Putin's head.
He has called on Russian military officers to go after Putin and arrest him as a war criminal.
Konanykhin said he was putting up the bounty to "facilitate the denazification of Russia."

Capn. There's no reason why you shouldn't donate to the Yemen fund and good for you for suggesting it. Maybe you could start a new thread. I would support this.

Thanks for the hump and adding the Yemen appeal, Capn.

Their unjust war has been going on for ages but has not received the same attention of the world at large - and I had never thought to donate to it - but I've just donated to both the Yemen cause and the Ukrainian cause and it took just about a minute each.

DEC dealt with both transactions, showing a little lorry driving along after payment, though I used the card option rather than PayPal because Paypal was taking too long to process.

I agree with CM. :)

Funding to support the Yemen crisis adds to its billions, but its not all getting there, its difficult to get aid into Yemen, aid is often controlled and restricted.

International donors have been praised for raising large amounts of money for Yemen in response to the humanitarian crisis.

Almost all of the $2bn (£1.58bn) pledged at a UN conference in April has been received or formally committed.

The first pledging conference for Yemen held in 2017 was similarly as successful. The UN says 94% of the pledges - $1.1bn (£862m) - were fulfilled.

Half of the money pledged in this year came from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). These are the two largest contributors to the UN's plan followed by the US, Kuwait and the UK.

The money has been given to dozens of UN agencies, international organisations and local NGOs. The largest recipients include the World Food Programme, United Nations Children's Fund, World Health Organization and the UN refugee agency.

These are large sums, but this UN-co-ordinated funding plan is only around half of the total aid committed for Yemen. It's estimated that in total $4bn has been made available this year.

Much of this extra funding has been provided by the UAE - a further $1bn - making it, by a significant margin, the largest humanitarian donor to Yemen this year.

The Red Crescent Society of the United Arab Emirates was the largest individual recipient in 2018.

So if such large contributions are being committed to Yemen, why isn't aid reaching those needing it most?

Yemen needs it's own thread. A good cause and at least one member has already contributed. I will do the same and I think the captain is onboard too.

The funds and goods for Ukraine are needed now, this very moment. We, local volunteers are letting the Ukraine crisis group have local storage space prior to sending out.

Good work, Pix, NoSaint.

And local Good news.

My town, the first in the country to be designated a 'Rights Respecting' community, will, as usual, be pulling out all the stops and has already turned its website blue and yellow in honour of the Ukrainian flag and has plans to light up our iconic town centre clock, (just outside in my street) , in a blue and yellow light and fly a Ukrainian flag from its flagpole.

Here's what our town council website says;

"Ukraine – A Statement from the Mayor of Bridport. (March 2nd)

I am sure that like me you have been stunned by events taking place in Ukraine. To see a sovereign democratic European country being subjected to a full-blown military invasion is something I am sure like you I had hoped I would never see happen again.

What is currently happening in Ukraine fills me with a range of emotions from outrage at the unprovoked attack to the horror at the consequences of their actions and frustration and helplessness at not being able to do something concrete to help the people being subjected to military bombardment and as a consequence having to flee their country to seek a safe haven.

Bridport is proud to be the first Rights Respecting town in this country and as such we are particularly appalled by the removal of basic human rights by military force. The people of Ukraine, following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, have moved steadily from being ruled by an oppressive totalitarian regime to being a sovereign democracy. To see all of that hard won freedom being brutally challenged is abhorrent.

To let the world know the people of Bridport are looking on in horror at what Russia is doing and to send a message of support to the people of Ukraine, the Town Hall clock will shortly be lit in the blue and yellow of the Ukrainian flag, and the Ukrainian flag will be flown. This beacon in the centre of our town will not only symbolically beam out those messages but also reminds us all to keep the people of Ukraine, and other countries around the world currently undergoing similar turmoil, in our thoughts.

I have seen some wonderful examples of local activity to collect desperately needed supplies to send to Ukraine, alongside the campaigns of national organisations who have the infrastructure in place to get aid to where it is most needed. I would encourage everyone to support these initiatives.

Cllr Ian Bark, Mayor of Bridport

Will Austin
Town Clerk, Bridport Town Council"

Zelenskiy calls for direct talks with Putin – 'only way to stop war'
Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has called for direct talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, saying it was “the only way to stop this war”.

Volunteers from Birmingham and the Black Country are signing up to join the resistance in Ukraine. Wolverhampton Grand Theatre have cancelled Russian performances.

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/black-country/how-west-midlands-standing-ukraine-23248318

Birmingham leaders have written to Home Secretary Priti Patel urging action on the Ukrainian refugee crisis. In a letter, council leader Ian Ward urged her to act swiftly to support displaced people as he declared Brum a "city of sanctuary".

It comes as people in Birmingham and the Black Country were reportedly preparing to put their lives on the line to fight for democracy. The chairman of the Association of Ukrainians claimed locals were planning to travel to Kyiv to fight invading Russian forces. They came forward after Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said she would support UK nationals who wanted to join the resistance.

Andrew Duda said: "I have been contacted in the last few days by local men who have said they want to go out and fight to help the Ukrainians, these were private individuals with Black Country and possibly Birmingham accents. This has only happened since it was reported that Britain would support anyone who wanted to go out and fight."

Meanwhile, the art world has also been gripped by events in Eastern Europe. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has recognised the parallels between his show and the events in Ukraine.

Mr Knight told BirminghamLive: "Peaky has always had some sort of resonance with what's going on. The fact that sirens are going off in Europe is tragic and horrible.

"Speaking personally to the people of Ukraine, my heart goes out to them and I just hope we're not heading for another war."

And in Moseley, community leader Izzy Knowles said a #MoseleyForUkraine group had been set up and would be accepting donations at the Moseley Hive on Friday and Sunday this week.

"If you have anything you can donate drop it in. Boxes and packing material are also needed," she said.*

I won't call it Good news because hundreds or thousands of innocent "lied to" young Russian soldiers may yet pay a terrible price but ...

Putin's 40 mile convoy is STUCK and may end up "A Basra Road" of flaming bent metal in the next few hours or days; so says a talking head on LBC radio as of 2 minutes ago. (I was writing the previous post so didn't listen acutely but when I heard the phrase "Basra road", the infamous and hellish image of the infamous Highway of Death" materialised in my mind.)

It was the location on highway 80, a substantial road between Kuwait and Iraq, where retreating Iraqi troops in a convoy got entirely vapourised by allied forces munitions back in 1990.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HighwayofDeath
---
Should I / we feel sorry for the Russian troops when Ukrainian civilians are suffering in their millions with thousands and thousands losing their lives daily now?

Well it's all just ghastly and horrific, isn't it?

But here's some Good news.

President Macron reports he has just spoken to Putin and confirmed that Putin's "main goal" is to control (and keep control) of ALL Ukraine.

Why is that good news? (I'm no expert and just surmising.) Because, even if he were allowed to pursue that goal, the fact that he only has a couple of hundred thousand troops in Ukraine just confirms he will never be able to maintain control over 40 million inspired and courageous Ukrainians - not in a million years. I don't think so anyway.

And meanwhile, Russian citizens in Russia itself are now seeing children and grandparents being arrested and imprisoned for protesting about Putin's butchery with him threatening martial law on his own people.

How the hell does he think he can, somehow, continue in power when all of this 'stranger than fiction' STUFF is going on?

Yes I've seen video footage of Russian children in prison yesterday, and riot police arresting pensioners protesting and more aggressively arresting other protestors who are pushing for peace. Today a group of Russian soldiers are reporting on their twitter live that they have been abandoned in Ukraine for three days without food. The convoy did get stuck in the mud and a lot of heavy artillery, i.e tanks have broken down and have been abandoned. Live broadcasters from Russia last night reporting that you cannot get money, all cash points and banks in St Petersburg are empty and people are being turned away, at the same times currency is rapidly losing value due to the financial crash, as prices on everyday things escalate at a ridiculous rate. The financial squeeze from the West is forcing poverty upon the innocent people of Russia.

Despite sanctions Putin carries on.

The second round of talks between Ukraine and Russia is over - Podoliak. Ukraine did not get the results it hoped for, said an adviser to the head of the Office of President. According to him, the parties agreed on humanitarian corridors for evacuation of people and delivery of medicines in the areas of the most active hostilities, as well as a temporary ceasefire during the evacuation. The third round of talks is to take place in the near future.

Latest from the map . (telegram source)

Bad news that there is no yet solution to ending the invasion. Good news that there will be a ceasefire in order to bring in medical supplies and evacuate more citizens.

What can martial law do that Putin dosen't already do? Theres no free press, no right to protest, rigged elections and people arrested for disagreeing with Putin.

A million bounty to take out Putin, that going to mak him ever more paranoid and give those closest to him some ideas!

A CURFEW, Hen? That would teach Russian people a lesson to keep their mouth's shut and stop protesting.

As for a £1 million bounty? That made me laugh and reminded me of the movie "The Spy Who Shagged Me" where, having come back to life after being in suspended animation since the 1960's, the villain, Dr Evil, had to be reminded that a ransom of "One Million Dollars" was not really a lot of money by 1999!

The oligarch who owns Chelsea football club is happy to lose 1.5 billion owed to him in debt if it means he can drop / sell the club and hightail it out of the UK with all his other wealth and resources safe and intact so shouldn't the price on Putin's head be in the billions?
---
Oh ... and I've just heard the Ukrainian President say (on the radio) , EXACTLY what I've been saying.

He said; "If we don't stop Putin's actions, this WILL be the end of the world!"

Exactly ... Exactly my point.

You hear that Hiero?

I'm paraphrasing but check online right now to see / hear his exact words.

When is the bell ringing planning to start? Will it be daily or at weekends or on just one occasion?

Today Vladimir Putin said on TV "I want to say that the special military operation is proceeding strictly in line with the timetable. According to plan. All the tasks that have been set are being successfully resolved". Russia Today rt.com/russia/551174-putin-ukraine-offensive-remarks/ (03-Mar-22 at 18:03) includes "The offensive is proceeding strictly according to its “schedule,” Putin stressed, while admitting certain issues were experienced during the military operation. For instance, the Russian military has established safe corridors for Ukrainian civilians to escape the combat zone, yet local “neo-Nazi” forces and foreign “mercenaries” have been trying to prevent them from leaving, he said.
“Nationalist and neo-Nazi groups, foreign mercenaries, including those from the Middle East, are using civilians as human shields,” Putin stated. “As I’ve already said, there is absolutely objective data, photos of how they place heavy military equipment in residential areas of cities.”
Russia’s president also reiterated his stance on Ukraine, and the goal of protecting it from the far-right groups that have seized control in the country.
“Russians and Ukrainians are one nation, I will never give that up,” he stressed."

Putin said it, and Blackjack informed us "Putin is a reliable person, worse a man of his word" (thread "Russia and Ukraine A western nedessity" midsummerseve.com/fora/thread.aspx?threadid=198418&page=1 on 13-Jan-22 at 14:59).
Blackjack and Putin & Sergei Lavrov always tell the truth, so the TV pictures on many international channels must all be fake, and TV channels and other media of a wide variety of political persuasions must be lying.
(This is a very rare occasion that I'm being sarcastic.)
