I know. I know. We're sick to death of news about variants and how worried we should be about them but this new variant from South Africa, (found in Botswana and now in Hong Kong), has been described as having an "awful spike mutation profile," which, I think refers to the 32 spike mutations it is found to contain.

Now please do your own homework but I always thought that it was the spike element that posed the greatest threat due to the way and manner it attached to the host. (The host being us). And I have always assumed that the Delta virus was particularly nasty because it had 16 spike mutations and, therefore, gave itself extra new opportunities to invade and infect said host.

If that is the case then, like a 32 bit games console being better than an 8 or 16 bit games console, (offering exponential improvements in data exchange resolution), any virus with 32 spike mutations is going to exponentially outclass the already intensely deadly Delta virus with 16 spikes. That's my take on it anyway.

Oh yeah. And what do the experts think?

Ummm. Well they ain't happy. :-( And they think this particular variant might be able to give us and our vaccines the finger!

a) By being even more highly infectious than the Delta variant.

and

b) By (possibly) being entirely immune to our existing vaccines. (More research is needed but it is looking a bit gloomy.)

But like I said. Check it out yourself before someone drops by to read you their latest bedtime story because their version won't read like it was written by an adult. On the contrary, their version will be designed to scare, misinform and confuse you.

Whereas my version is only designed to scare you. :)

And no. This post doesn't need much in the way of reply or comment. It was just a public information post to enlighten you before you got the conspiracy version or the mangled Facebook version from somewhere else online. :)

The media are full of it, which means it must be nearly time to ruin everybody's Christmas.
Johnson will come on telly and tell us with a heavy heart that if we all pull together we might just save Easter.
This stuff is so predictable now it's like a recurring bad dream....

this nonsense shows no sign of abatement and will just go on and on, if we allow it too.there will be variant after variant to suit respectivecountries political agendas and levels of control they wish to impose.the time has come to say enough is enough.

Strand's right with his warnings, but don't forget there's still a lots thats unknown about this variant and it may not be as bad as they think it could be, so I think we should take sensible precautions such as putting South African Countires on the Red List and social distancing where possible is the way to go.

Botswana says the new variant was discovered inside the bodies of fully jabbed people.

So it seems the vaccine is causing variants to erupt.....

Isn't that we do with all the bad things life throws at us. We fight and fight and if we lose we start again. I have decided to give Botswana a miss for my holidays this year.

The World Health Organization has assigned the Greek letter Omicron to the newly identified B11 Covid variant discovered in South Africa.

The funny or frustrating thing?

The government got crucified the last time we faced a new threat, (The Delta variant), when it took 10 days to halt Indian flights to the UK yet this time, after acting , literally within just a few hours, (having learned their lesson from the previous debacle), they are getting it in the neck again for acting too quickly.

So no change there then.

"We cant stop it so learn to live with it best way you can."

As of yesterday, the new variant is already in Belgium so, with it already in Europe, we'll soon have little choice in the matter.

I'd got used to Delta despite having to visit hospitals, consultants, clinics and the rest over the last few months, (all the while keeping myself to myself for obvious social distancing reasons), but I've got a month long, 5 days a week, set of prostate cancer radiotherapy session due some time in January, so how serious this new variant really is will be a big deal for me if I have to be visiting a busy hospital for 20 days in a month. :-(

Assuming I'm still fit and healthy by then.
