Hi! I teach dyslexic children and before that worked in publishing. In between I had my family, some of whom are now flying the nest. I separated a year ago almost, waiting for divorce to come through now. This happened because of my husband's work and hobbies - we did little together, it seemed a pointless marriage. We are still on reasonable terms, luckily. I am now entering a new phase (I hope) maybe a little more time to do my own thing, and I'd love to meet new people and just take it from there.
I would love to meet interesting, friendly people locally. My life is fine, very busy, but lacking something. I love to go out but have simple tastes - walks, coffees, pubs, with the right company are fantastic. I love live music and comedy as well. I am not in a rush to get into a serious, long term relationship but am not looking for casual flings either. I have to take time but in the search would be very happy to see if I can make friends along the way.

My hobbies and interests
Cooking |
I quite enjoy cooking, love pasta especially and vegetarian dishes, although not a paid up member of the veggie society. I am a bit slapdash and creative in the kitchen; most things turn out ok.
Shopping |
I'm no shopaholic but am happy to go shopping once or twice a month as long as I know what I'm getting and don't want to trawl around for hours. I'm not particularly interested in clothes and can never afford much - am not a spendaholic either.
DIY |
Useless. Sort of trying to learn.
Housework |
I'd love a tidy house but cannot achieve it. I blame the children and dog.
Dining out |
I prefer informal pubs, if a restaurant preferably Italian, Greek or Indian, and as long as it's friendly and unpretentious. I prefer vegetables to meat but am not vegetarian.
Movies |
I quite enjoy films but not that many keep my attention. I enjoy tense thrillers and comedies, favourites include About a Boy, Billy Elliot, Witness, Pulp Fiction.
Theatre |
Theatre doesn't interest me a lot, although I did see The Dumb Waiter a couple of years ago, which was good.
Music |
So many - Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, The Fratellis, The Killers, Amy Macdonald, some Girls Aloud.
Gigs |
I've recently seen Coldplay, Oasis, The Fratellis, The Feeling, David Gray a few years ago. I don't mind the venue but am a bit old to get squashed!
Pubs |
It depends on the company - prefer small groups to large crowds.
Clubbing |
I've never enjoyed clubs.
Newspapers and magazines |
I read The Telegraph on Saturday and sometimes flick through my daughter's celebrity mags if there is nothing else around.
Books |
I read quite a lot and would love to have more time and peace to do so. Favourite authors include P D James, Ruth Rendell and am always on the look out for good detective fiction. I have just read The Bridges of Madison County and am currently reading The Book Thief. I also read The Wasp Factory recently, so quite a wide range of fiction. I like Alexander McCall Smith too, love his humour and gentlenesss and perceptions of human nature.
TV |
Monk, Foyle's War and Frasier are favourites. I don't watch a lot but quite enjoy quizzes. I enjoy some comedy too, eg Mock the Week, Would I Lie to You.
Watching sport |
I occasionally watch England play football - I love to see them do well but would not be able to analyse the play. I like test cricket but don't often get the chance to watch.
Playing sport |
I don't play sport really.
Hobbies |
No outlandish pastimes - love crosswords, reading, music, dog walking. All quite normal!
My hopes and dreams
In ten years I see myself |
Better off, slimmer, relaxed, retired, in a lovely house with lots of dogs! And I'd love the time to write a book which would be a bestseller, of course.
Who would I invite to a dinner party? |
An anthropologist - I want to understand where we come from.
David Mitchell, he's lovely and funny.
Hitler in his youth, I'd poison him.
My ideal date |
A summer evening walk, pub meal, back for coffee and gentle music. I'm easy to please! Totally relaxed and lots of laughter. Nothing fancy or expensive, for the sake of it.
What would I never, ever give up? |
Umm I love my car because it represents freedom.
If I had to give a speech on a subject I was passionate about ... |
Bruce Springsteen or puffins. Or potato growing - I'm just harvesting my first crop!
If I could visit anywhere in the world at any time in history |
The first thing that popped into my mind was America at the time of the early settlers. I think the early houses were quite comfortable, I like the idea of growing vegetables, and how exciting to be there at the start. I'd try to prevent slavery at the same time.
If I had a million pounds to give to charity |
Oh dear there are too many worthy causes, if I had to choose probably Dorothy House, a local hospice, but I'd like to give to Cancer Research, MS society, Guide Dogs for the Blind etc
My "and finally" section ... |
What can I say? I think I'm a nice person but there's only one way to find out really!
