Northumberland for me this year. Early September in a log cabin. Will be using the cabin as a base to visit places of interest that I used to go to when working. Like Alnwick Castle, Kielder Forest, Amble, Sea Houses and maybe Vindolanda again. I think I will also go see an old friend from MSE who lives in the area and see how many sheep she has now.

Not thinking of going anywhere abroad until the Covid situation sorts it's self out.

Northumberland is a great place for a holiday and much underrated. Like so many people I took advantage of cheap holidays in the sun but even before the virus hit, and before Brexit changes, there was the heightened security due to the terrorist threats. The travelling part of foreign holidays has become a miserable experience and I think a lot of people who start taking holidays in the UK will continue to do so and kick themselves for missing out on so much beauty.

These days ... No long haul. No beaches. No alcoholic binges. No naughty ladies. No over-eating. No loud music. Maybe I’ll not bother.

It sounds perfect to me. LOLOL.

I holidayed in Devon for years before moving here but now I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world. It is such a beautiful and interesting part of the country.

That's where I will be in July, Pylon. Staying near seahouses as I want to make at least a couple of boat trips out to the Farnes for the seabirds.

Minnie I think you will need to book with RSPB for access to Farne Islands as they are limiting the numbers of visitors per day due to Covid.
Also there is some dispute with the boat owners who ferry punters out to the Farne's from Sea Houses. It was on our local TV news a few weeks ago.

I am not planning on the Farne's. I am hoping to go to Lindisfarne tides permitting.

Wherever I go it will be in the uk even if flying is permitted. I wouldn't want to risk being tested positive in some other country then being isolated for the entire holiday but as most other countries are in lockdown or partial lockdown I don't think it would be much fun in any case.

Thanks for the tip there, Pylon. I'll definitely check it out in advance. Though, hopefully, the restrictions will have eased a bit by July. I wasn't aware that the RSPB had anything to do with the Farnes. I thought it was all owned by the National Trust.

There's not that much to see bird-wise on Holy Island, not in terms of the breeding colonies, anyway.

That sounds an interesting trip Minnie. I might get as far as the RSPB at Sandy.

* I thought it was all owned by the National Trust.*

Sorry about that, you are correct. I really should've checked who owns the islands.

I must add though that the boat trips are limited as I first mentioned.

I am going to Lindisfarne, tides permitting, for the Castle and Priory. If, on the day I cannot get I will drive a bit further up the A1 and visit Berwick- upon-Tweed.

Well white sands, tropical palms would be nice. I think, Hastings, Old Town, where there is the best b&b, old fashioned and quaint, and near a street where houses date back to 1450. People still live in them. I love walking down that street. Also not bad beach, cliff cable car, shopping precinct.

A bit adventurous travelling as far south as Stratford upon Avon. Anywhere south of Watford Gap is tempting fate.

Ditto going anywhere north of Watford Gap.

I would've thought anywhere outside of UK is dodgy.

Also, there are plenty of good places in the North, same as some in the South, apart from the road North.

Money is very limited at the moment but I have managed to book a three days in a static caravan by the sea completely free of charge. It's an introductory offer to entice you to buy a caravan on the site.
