I like Boris, but there's something about Cummings that I find really irritating so I don't particularly care if he goes over this.
What I don't understand is why this is only coming out now - he was ill with the virus at the same time as Johnson and Hancock and that was weeks ago.
If he was spotted then why wasn't it all over the media at the time? All very odd.....

I haven't read all the details....but his opponents are going to have a field day.....

It was supposedly to do with child care from what I read....and he says they stayed in a separate house...

But still......There are various 'punishments' which could now happen.....Depending on the situation....

If he's found lying about anything.....Out the door straight away.....

Other punishments accordingly.....

I'm sure we'll find out soon.....

Like you tumbled, I haven't read the details and I'm only going by what "broke" on twitter last night.
But the lefty press like the Guardian, Mirror and even some not so left have been gunning for Cummings for months and I can't quite understand why this dynamite revelation has gone unreported for so long if it was known about.
If indeed they are referring to when he had the virus which was weeks ago....

No doubt the righties on here will be arguing the lefties have something to do with it, I will be arguing it was probably bojo and cummings himself who kept it out of the news for so long - probably by threatening to sack anyone who leaked it; either way I'm not sure we'll ever know the reasoning. He does seem to be avoiding giving any apology or admitting doing anything wrong....though that might change.

What is it people keep saying?
We're all in this together?

There's got to be a headline somewhere.....or probably just about everywhere.....saying something like 'The Cummings and goings' etc etc

If there isn't.......then get in touch journalists....It's yours....for a small fee......I say small.....

Ahh tumbled, #dominicgoings is trending on twitter, you're wasted on here.

As I understand it a neighbour dobbed him in, which still baffles me why it's happened now...

I'm not in the slightest bit surprised that politicians and government employees are doing this. In fact, judging by the numerous incidents we probably all witness every day, I would be more surprised if it wasn't happening.
When Calderwood did this in Scotland I didn't think it warranted losing her job and I feel the same about any others doing it.

Although it is Cummins ....... he's not popular.

I think you'll be waiting a heck of a long time with this government to be faces with the real facts, judging by past performance. :D

Not a fan of Dominic Cummins. I find him a bit of a wild card, in a position of too much power and influence.

The reason for his breaking the lock down rules was to do with child care. Unlike the professor's clandestine meet. But none the less Cummins broke the lock down.

because of the "time lag" the powers that be must have been trying to cover this up and hoping that it would go away.

it doesnt matter what they do to cummins, his sort will always be pulling strings...in the background.

Well of I had corona I, d want my kids with family incase I died, so many people broke lockdown for less reasons but hey he's one a neighbour could make money out of by telling the media, ffs he got into a car and drove and went into a separate building on family grounds but hey care workers can go shopping, live with family and then go into a care home and work without PPE, I know which I, d be more concerned about, this covid has brought out the best and worst in people and the very nasty in others

I have noticed how people are more watchful and critical of others actions.
The clap the NHS thing is a perfect example, I was watching out of my window last week and those that do come out of their front doors are slyly looking to see if their neighbours are out clapping too.
You can feel the pressure if you don't happen to be out there, it's supposed to be a choice thing isn't it?...

Well as expected Boris is backing him ...

I'm concerned that both he and his wife were exhibiting symptoms of Covid !9 and travelled 250 miles with a young child and may have been in contact with other people. A blatant disregard for other people from someone who definitely should have known better.

I think he should go and quickly as staying makes the Government's position even more untenable. Boris should be using the common sense he urges us all to ...

If only the Tories had acted as quickly and decisively in February/March, to contain the coronavirus crisis as they're moving today to control the message and defend Dominic Cummings, for wantonly breaking the self-isolation rules to deliberately drive the virus up to the North East.

If only they'd cared as much about keeping coronavirus out of care homes as they care about massaging the message in order to make Cummings look like a poor innocent father who just loved his child to much, rather than a rule-breaker who needs to lose his job over it, just like the two scientific advisers (Catherine Calderwood and Neil Ferguson) the Tory press hounded into resignation for much less serious breaches of the rules than what their mate Cummings did.

By behaving in this astonishingly hypocritical way they're simply proving that they believe there should be one set of rules for the ordinary plebs to follow (stay at home, don't transport the virus around the country, don't visit your parents, don't even comfort your grieving family members if someone has died), and another entirely different rule for themselves (do whatever the hell you like, and the rest of us will cover for you).

.Maglorian, AvitoDauphine, Wandering4Fun, Witheflow, withgoodintent, to use just a few of your names, you cannot escape your neo liberal cabal by pretending to have socialist ideals and pretending to care about others and pretending to want to help the poor. You really nasty piece of work.
You mock council house tenants? You laugh at littered communities? You make racist comments? You make snide homophobic remarks? You hate seeing the poor being helped and attack every thread where caring people try to help others. The use of fake images, verbal insults to “non-agreers”, multi profiles including a female one with access to the “ladies” room.
The only contribution you have made to the forum is reviving all the excellent votes which float around whenever one of the abhorrent trolls makes an unwelcome appearance.

Another snide post from the most duplicitous of all the mse trolls. Hardly on the moral high ground.

Mags

Were the UK public ready for a mass lockdown as at say early Feb 2020 - with all the many logistical complexities thereof?

With 82% of UK Care Homes in private ownership - was it not the responsibility of those owners to have plans in place for a eg pandemic and have adequate PPE stockpiled?

I think under such exceptional circumstances as a rare pandemic, only at Government level can preparations be made. It was predicted and no action was taken.

We knew it would happen, it just got put off in denial it will be later, as if later never comes.

Too busy with austerity at the time.

I doubt any private company would look beyond "Just in Time" ordering of anything, always running everything to the bone so minimum financial outlay and no joined up survival plan that would be more possible unless social care was linked to NHS so profit is not a consideration.

I wouldn't shed any tears if Dominic Cummings was to go as I find it very easy to dislike him intensely.
The trip he made during lockdown was certainly unwise bearing in mind his position in government and the need to be seen doing the right thing but even after reading several reports I cannot decide how bad that decision was or whether it was unlawful.
