Why aren't crisp packets standard colours?

I'm a crisp fanatic, I don't think there are any crisps I don't like and I've tried most of 'em over the years.
On my weekly trip to tesco yesterday I stocked up again but I've just noticed that Walkers square crisps have opposite bag colours to Walkers "normal" crisps.
Normal crisps are green for salt & vinegar, blue for cheese & onion and red for ready salted, but with square crisps green is cheese & onion, blue is salt & vinegar and red is ready salted!
How amazing is that? I only just noticed it and had to eat a bag of each to make sure it was correct....

I've got used to the Walkers colours over the years.....but I remember Smiths....and Smiths were always green Cheese and Onion back in the 60's/70's

So when I first had Walkers....it was a culture shock......

But the Walkers colours became the norm....

I didn't realise they were changing them again....maybe it's just the square ones.....Hopefully.....

I'm too old to get used to another change......

I'd say it's Walkers that are the odd one's out.
Everyone else has Green for Cheese & Onion (&/or Sour Cream & Onion) & Blue for Salt & Vinegar.
& Red for Plain/Ready Salted.

Hmm marmite crisps are a delight, not seen them in tesco for ages though. The bags are black.
Aldi's snackrite crisps adhere to the normal crisps colour scheme I'm pleased to say....

I used to like Savoury Vinegar flavour......I think the packet was purple.....They stopped doing them though....

Some of the recent years mish mash of flavours have been disappointing though.....Glad they stopped doing some of them....I love a Fried breakfast.....the works......but the Builders Breakfast crisps were just a weird unidentifiable taste.....They were more like Builders Bum.....Not that I've ever.....

Hedgehog flavour crisps weren't bad. No idea if the actually tasted of Hedgehog though.

I prefer ready salted - or salt your own like the Smith's crisps used to be. I've got a couple of "Smith's twister" badges from the 1960s, little blue enamel salt twists given out at dance competitions for The Twist.

Are there any flavours that are no good for crisps.....and any packet colours as well.....

I was going to start another thread...as it's a bit off topic a bit....but I'll add it to this one....

I've already mentioned some 'mish mash' flavours.....but some others that may or may not be horrible are:-

Partridge....Pheasant.....Mushroom....Jelly.....Cabbage......Peanut......

Around Christmas there were Sprout flavour ones.....but they'd run out and I never got to try them.......and perhaps never will....Tragic.......I don't even know what the colour the sprout package was....I never saw any....Just the empty shelf.....through my tears.....

This was a timely thread for me, it reminded me I've had two packets of crisps stored away for about five years...wonder if they go off? I stopped eating them when my teeth fell out - it hurts the gums when trying to chomp them.

I used to love tomato ketchup flavour and KP used to do proper beef flavour, not beef and onion which gives me indigestion. lol
I'm not sure if KP are still making crisps, Walkers seem to have taken over lots of brands - Smiths "salt your own" with the little blue bag are owned by Walkers.
Pickled onion outer spacers were delightful in my schooldays....

I've thought of another one....which I don't think has been mentioned yet....

A lad at work used to love them......and Karl Pilkington does as well....

Monster Munch......

They are Walkers salt and shake, the packaging is almost identical to the original Smith's one. I presume Walkers took them over or whatever.
I never use the salt and prefer the crisps totally unflavoured, it's amazing the number of times I've nearly eaten the little blue bag by mistake.
Who thought crisps could be such an interesting subject?.... lol
