The Japanese built a road going electric car as early as 1947 but for many decades there was very little development of this new concept. Was it deliberately held back?

I’d like to see that one so I might google. In the past there has been no incentive to improve the technology of electric cars just as there was no incentive to develop wind or solar energy.

You could say the same about hydrogen powered cars.
The first predates petrol by over 140 years, given that the very first internal combustion engine that ran on a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen was invented in 1804 over 6 decades before gasoline was used for an internal combustion engine.

Was the camel draconian or baroquian? They get the hump if you get it wrong.
