Are you a cat or dog lover, or does your life style prevent you from having the pet of your choice ?

I loved our 2 Siamese cats and the 7 Burmese beauties that were living with us , until Grey died aged 15.

Then no animals until 8.5 years ago . A cute, but willful chocolate puppy was in need of a dog-sitter while his mum and dad were working. . At times he drove me to despair But I persevered because he was my daughter`s and her husband substitute child and became my substitute grandchild .
Now I love him. I get so much affection back ! Dogs are more " in tune" with people.

Leogirl.

Definitely dogs only, I really cannot stand cats at any price.
It wouldn't be fair to have a dog given my present working hours etc...

I like both. I like animals including wild ones especially wild ones which live in or around the garden.

I have a rescue cat from Woodgreen.
She's 16 now, has no teeth and is fitter than me !!

I have also had dogs but love all animal, domestic or wild.

I’ve a cat now and since I had my own home I’ve had a cat with the exception of the few years when I lived with Dollie my rescue dog. When she moved on to greener pastures I was without a familiar for a few months.
Although I’m not particularly good at living with other people I do miss having a sentient being in the house with me. Hence I’ve had my present cat for twelve years.

I like your term for an animal friend nellie, 'familiar'...pity it has the supernatural connotations.

For me, although I like all animals my prefernece would be dog, more specifically a rescue dog, I hate breeders, to me they are nothing more than slave traders - buying and selling living creatures for profit.
As a friend, or familiar, I could never have a cat, whilst I don't hate them I dislike them just about more than any other creature...in fact they're a close second to humans in my dislike of species.
