Now the weather is turning colder and nights darker I’ll spend many evenings on the lounge floor with my girls playing all sorts of games. One of our favourites is Trivial Pursuit but we play Ludo, Snakes & ladders, Draughts and now practising Chess.
Not keen on Monopoly but a few newer games are ok.

It’s all about bishops and horses knocking over the opponents prawns.

I’ve not played since my childhood.

It's hard to play board games by yourself :( I used to love Cluedo and Trivial Pursuit. Now I play games online like Mahjong. I do the occasional jigsaw puzzle at home too.

Board games, I'd love to re-learn chess

Party games, never.

One is bored with board games, and I don't like playing with myself either.

I agree twinkle, but I learned to anyway, being an only child I had too. Why do parents of only children buy them lots of board games for when friends come round and then complain that their child is bored and has nothing to do, what are you supposed to play with and who with?

I'm not competitive and although playing scrabble with someone else is good I hate it when people do a series of "snookering" moves that leave you nowhere to go and just stymies any play and you have to give up. I'd rather play by myself where I just draw seven letters and see what good words I can make than play with someone who stymies.

Wonderoushen. You can play scrabble against the computer.

I’ve done that Andromeda and you can choose difficulty levels.

Andromeda, I know I can, but I don't like it, its even more annoying than playing with people who "snooker" you, I guess I just don't play well with others. i don't need the competitive element to enjoy playing.

I play a number of board games with family. Some provide good entertainment and an opportunity to both chat and laugh.

My son's family seem to have a board game store. They (and I) play a lot of different board games. I'm amazed at how quickly the grandchildren get the rules of a new one when I'm still floundering! It's good to spend time with family in this way

I enjoy doing jigsaws and crosswords as a solitary occupation, although my daughter-in-law and I are a good tag team on the crossword front. I have a friend who sometimes comes round to share the jigsaw too.

I’m guessing a lot of people play board games at Christmas and no other time.

Yer 'orrible you lot! now, just when I thought I could get some rest I'll be looking for another flippin' chess set/game to try to re-learn it. So go on then, somebody give me a reasonable online chess website or a downloadable site so I can play against the computer.

Years ago I had a small battery powered chess set where you could either play against another person or the machine, tried finding another one but apparently they don't make them now?

When I was at school, I used to have one of those little travelling chess sets, with the holes in....we used to play at break times.....and maybe in a lesson or two....

Now, there's one online that I use called, would you believe, chess.com

Was it Kasparov Chess Sets which were battery operated? A Russian master anyway. They have some new ones which link by Bluetooth but only see adverts for them.

It is hard to play board games by yourself but it can be difficult to find games for three to play when it’s an adult, a teen and a twelve year old.

Nope, my attention span is too short. I go out of my mind waiting for other people to take their go. I call them bored games.
