I just noticed your threads are numbered, this is number 8.
I never noticed that before, it must be a new and exciting technological addition to the site....

I’ve had some good laughs at the fair sharing a dodgem ride or holding tight on the Big Dipper. I have always enjoyed fairs and when I was young we would go just to find girls to date.

I used to take dates on scary rides so they would cling onto me screaming. Now I would be clinging onto her.

The fun of the fair. :) They don’t seem so exciting these days but my kids still look forward to the fair coming to town.

Not keen on fairs but prefer them to a date at the dentist.

I remember being vey excited when the fair came and it was always a good place to go on dates but I wouldn't be so keen now. Most of the rides would make me feel ill.

Although fairs haven't been setting up in towns I have seen one or two smaller attractions parked during the fair dates which might be to preserve the permissions they have to set up in town centres.

If you have a spin round chair....you can spin round on it....a bit like the waltzers....

and you can hang upside down on the rotary washing line..and have a bit of a spin as well......

and put a slice of carrot in a bag with water......It looks a bit like a goldfish.....

I had a holiday romance and was taken to a fair which had set up on the common. It was an old fashioned fair with no rides but had lots of simple games including darts, bow and arrows, coconut shies and it was a lot of fun. Genuine fun where everyone was happy and laughed a lot. I didn't win a carrot in a bag of water which was disappointing.

Sounds like fun LadyVera. We often think it's necessary to have more but the simple games can be real fun.
Charter fairs were granted rights to set up in town centres by the king in the 13th century.

Modern fairs need the biggest, highest, fastest rides to attract the modern generation. More to do with thrills than fun.

The good old days of watching the gallopers with real organ music are mostly gone.

Those were the days although you still get the steam fairs.
