Who would make the best leader for the Conservative party?

I suppose the leadership race will now be in full swing as May is finally going on the 7th June, to be honest I don't really like any of them and deffinately not Boris Johnson.

Boris seems to be the favourite, although favourites often fail to win. I'd be OK with him as PM though.
Whoever wins will be faced with the same problem that has destroyed May's premiership and the risk is they will be destroyed by it too.
I can't see Parliament agreeing to a no deal Brexit so they will end up revoking or collapsing the government in October.
Corbyn will win the GE and then get destroyed by Brexit.
This has months to run...

I like Dominic Raab somebody younger for a change.

I would have agreed with a change of leader or even change of party if there were any viable alternatives.
Blustering Boris, Corbyn the Clown it can only get worse.

Whoever gets in, the whole 3-ring circus will start all over again and if the 'chosen one' doesn't deliver quickly s/he will be slated with an attempt to oust them. The country is split down the middle, we've opened Pandora's Box and whatever happens, the result will be the same - half and half dis/satisfied. I just don't know what the answer is as I think TM did her best and will anyone do any better?

I agree Blue-Poppy. I dread a new leader being chosen for their view on Brexit rather than their ability to lead.

It's a tricky old thing really...I've said before that May would be ok under other circumstances, but Brexit was her downfall.

Someone else coming in needs to get Brexit delivered, but then they may falter afterwards, doing the normal stuff...

May worked hard, but as she said in her speech, she was trying to do it for everyone, and unfortunately there were too many things that can't be for everyone...she mentioned compromises, but her compromises didn't work.

As I have said, the Brexit thing needs a totally committed Brexit team behind it.. They need to be able to kick arse...

I think the time to be behind Brexit was well before the referendum when all the details should have been sorted but now that ship has sailed with the country split in half and both major parties seem to be split in half too. I suppose electing a leader who is committed to Brexit or committed to Remaining will still leave everyone as non-winners.

I quite fancy Sajid Javid as Tory leader as he seems a bit more intelligent and sensible (rare qualities in a politician) than the others.

My personal choice would be Steve Baker. He is strong willed and can certainly hold his own in any debate.
Another young star making a name for himself is Johnny Mercer.
But I doubt the old guard will allow either of them to lead.

I agree too Blue Poppy, the whole thing is totally toxic and a complete mess.

As the numbers in parliament will still be the same I think we'll have another GE by xmas, I know the commons will have to vote for it, but I can't see anyone not wanting one to try and somehow break the deadlock by getting a majority. But if its another hung parliament then I think not just the Tories buy Labour will fragment too.

With any luck Labour will get rid of Corbyn too and get someone with a bit more oomph.

Johnny Mercer? Omg! I hope not!

From what I've seen when he became involved in a Plymouth school being closed I would hate to see him getting to be PM. I do wonder if he has ANY empathy inside of him. One pupil was making an impassioned appeal in defence of the school...he asked why was she was getting upset.

The leader of the Scottish Conservatives speaks well when interviewed but I believe she has ruled herself out...mind you, that was before TM resigned.

As an MSP Ruth Davidson can't stand for leadership because you have to be a Westminster MP to be PM and she's said she will not move to England to take up a safe seat so as she can stand for party leadership.

It matters not which person replaces May. They are all in the same boat. The ideology of materialism and gain is their mantra. Their policies are clear to all. And thank God they are destined to fall. The Gammon voters who took from the good years wont be here in 10 years time. A new way is coming now. Out with the old and in with the new. Another name wont help their demise. Boris the liar and devious fooler, Baker the Nazi who want's his little britain. Their all clinging and clambering for control.

All hail the new Messiah Jeremy Corbyn.

New way my butt. He is going to drag us back to the 70s.

Do you see how you change the word "Way" to person Barney? You are locked in to personality and also living in the past. Stop worrying about what's coming. Surely you want the youth to have the chances you had. Or are you one of them that pulls the ladder up, after getting where you wanted to be?
Male
barney  Male  Surrey 25-May-2019 12:09 Message #4740651
Johnny Mercer is leading a campaign to stop our veterans of the armed forces being pursued by lawyers and prosecuted.
Something I agree with but obviously the left wing liberals don't.

I agree that that soldiers are only servants to the ruling class. Wars make money and money fattens the ruling class. But I also know that, if they murder innocents or rape and abuse their job description. Then they are not above the law. Surely you don't condone abuse as well as murder Barney?
Male
barney  Male  Surrey 25-May-2019 13:11 Message #4740653
Of course if it is proven that a soldier has abused his position they should be prosecuted but it ended where all these shyster lawyers set up offices in places like Iraq where most of the claims were false.
Its obvious that if you tempt an Iraqi etc who has nothing with a big payout they are going to say they were abused.
All aided and abetted by the Government.

I just think it's so funny reading stuff from these socialists that somehow their lot hold the moral high ground.
Why have you all got such a chip on your shoulder?
Where does this absolute envy come from?...
Male
Witheflow  Male  North Yorkshire 25-May-2019 13:47 Message #4740655
Envy Hiero? You appear to be deviating from the discussion again. I don't envy anyone. And certainly not someone that abuses others whilst hiding under a British army badge. If anyones got a chip on their shoulder, it's you and your "Lefty, Socialist obsession". Chill out dude.
Male
Witheflow  Male  North Yorkshire 25-May-2019 13:53 Message #4740656
@ Barney.. How do you know the claims made are false? Surely a court of law will decide on that. When you destroy communities and people over oil and control of the middle east. You reap the consequences. I know a few ex military that were sent to destroy lives in Iraq and they are utterly ashamed and broken over their naivety and obedience.
