With some very big businesses teetering on the brink of collapse, fuel at an all time high, unemployment on the way ever upwards and VAT at 20%. We surly must be asking is this government really doing its best to bring us out of these dark times?

Set projections at the first signs of recovery are 5 years away.

How is this affecting you?

I have tightened my spending to only what I need what with food prices going up and up and treat myself very rarely.

The price of petrol's effecting me quite a bit, being in the middle of nowhere with no public transport, I'm very car dependent. I want to invest in the garden this years and really get growing things again, the more veg I can grow the less I have to buy.

I tend to buy things that are on special offer at the shops. That means expensive extras that are never on offer like butter are a no..pity as you can't beat butter on toast!

Don't go to the pub or eat out anymore. Likewise anywhere non local in the car because of the price of petrol.
That rules out the mse meetups.

Charity shops are excellent for clothes..they have to be in good condition or they won't take them and you can get designer brands for the price of primark ones.

The biggest concern at the moment is the heating bill...

Well it could mean I'll be joing the ranks of the un-employed soon. It's a really nervous market place: the money's there it's just not circulating.

Personally I'm not borrowing to do things any more such as going to the Feb' ball and I'm now in for the whole of Febuary. I've not made any long term plans an am forcing myself to live on literally £5.00 a day.

I'm not driving unless I have to and make sure that I pack as many visits/chores/shopping in one trip so as not to waste petrol.

To me, a treat is usually something i see in one of my towns various charity shops. Living alone, ive learnt not to be wasteful and rarely throw anything away. There is still too much waste in society and i cant see it changing anytime soon.

it's affected my employment with the money disappearing from my career sector despite ever increasing need for it's services. oh yes, i forgot the Big Society was going to take on all the additional responsibilities for the vulnerable members of our communities...wasn't it?

belts are tightened in every conceivable way until I'm working again...and at 45 ,as a thread last week discussed, do I have a good chance of that happening anyway?

I have to say it seems so unjust to me that the people that should be held accountable for this crisis are rewarded with million pound wage rises, and the poor are made to pay for the mistake. I don’t suppose the expenses scandal helped either still isn’t greed one of the seven deadly sins?

Envy certainly is.

Dustybin Envy?

I have learned that I don't need to envy anyting that anyone has because if I really want something that badly I can have it myself.

I wanted to be a lifeguard, I worked hard and got that qualification.
