Oh dear

I've got a bloodshot eye!

No, I haven't been drinking, or doing anything strenuous(!).

It's just the one and it's not itchy or anything, it just occured this afternoon. My vision kept going a little blurry and I had to blink a few times to clear it, which makes me think it was caused by some external irritation.

I could do with some Optrex or something, but alas have none. I don't fancy driving through the snow to the nearest shops with a squiffy eyeball.

Any good ideas anyone? Do you think I ought to have a medicinal brandy just in case?

Ha ha Coxy - it was a bit of a shock for me too, but a very nice one :-)

I think I need a brandy to steady the nerves after that.

Thanks Speedy - have googled stye, it's not one of those.

You may find some relief by holding a hottish face cloth to a closed eye, maybe the secreting glands in the lid are blocked, and the waxy blockage needs loosening.

Stop peering through keyholes then, you nosy woman!

Opticrom eyedrops are good, if it is an allergy. It is an antihistamine, not a steroid, so safe to use.

Have you been spending too many hours on dating/social sites...? Seriously, is it your dominant eye?

It is simply called "red eye" I think and mostly spontaneous and harmless, but still better to get it checked by your optician/GP.

I had one once, but I had been standing on my head at Yoga. Usially just a burst blood vessell, no pain or problems with vision.

Thanks JustLyn. If it's still red on Monday I'll pop along and get it checked out.

Hi Jem,
I get these with stress, they just happen, my eye aches sometimes as if it's bruised but usually clear up within a week! Brilliant, if you can coincide it with Halloween...

Slightly off subject, but since you said Halloween...
...and a sense of humour...

...my sister, having gone through chemo recently, left me splitting my sides as she grinned broadly thinking of scaring the kids who knocked at the door!

Have a large brandy, if that doesn't work repeat.
After several large brandy's you won't care about your eye! LOL

Hope you feel better soon.

Regards
John

Thanks for the advice everyone - it's much better today, hardly noticeable now x

I think I must have got something in it which irritated it.

Johnlock - I obviously have the same medical manual as you - good old brandy!
