Have you any Storms / High Winds or Thunder or Lightening locally to where you are living
Or have you heard of any bad weather for tonight ..i cant find a thing apart from a band of rain coming over which ..appears to be from the West
The reason im asking is that the Dog i have is acting as if there is a Thunder Storm in the Air ...hes just wet on my floor in total fear and yet we have no rain ... only a bit of wind ... all very strange indeed... but i cant calm him down at all...

Fine here, 22c the palm trees gently swaying in the warm night breeze, crickets chirping waves gently lapping the shore.
Try here (ingnore the Burnham on Crouch bit as it shows the whole of the UK) There was a strike off the West Coast of Ireland & Anglesley a few seconds ago...

Hi DPK, just had a peep to see where you live. The forecast for down here in Chilterns, is for mild night with drizzle and at moment its correct. The forecast for up your way is possible snow and very cold. Just heard it all on radio in background.
Just a thought - you havent got a fox lurking around outside have you, they sometimes get the dogs a bit spooked.

Are there any storm tracking maps in uk ...or maps of current lightening strikes, to take a look at in uk for checking current weather/freak storms often throughout the day
I know of the Raintoday Map and
the Sat 24... but they dont show up lightening strikes or freak storm activity currently going on in various parts of Uk ??

Just looked at the realtime lightening there is lightening here and there nationally... around Yorkshire too, not
that far from here ... so my dog is probably responding to the electrical currents of the lightening in the air around uk..
Bearing in mind hes extra sensitive to this sort of stuff, as most dogs with thunderstorm fears are, as they can sense it miles away before it actually arrives ... and as an example here for instance they can sense it in the morning when it is miles away and doesnt actually hit your location till the evening time ..

It's weather. It happens. It's winter.
|
|
|
Summer is when most thunderstorms occur the input of heat from the sun is at its greatest, producing thermal up-currents that develop deep cumulonimbus clouds.
In these cumulonimbus clouds electrical charges build up in the ice particles and water droplets, and when the positive and negative charges are great enough to overcome the resistance of the air a massive electrical spark or ‘lightning stroke’ occurs.
Here in the UK thunderstorms are less common, but the area that receives most is Eastern England 15 to 20 thunderstorms on average each year. But don’t let this worry you too much. The actual chances of being struck by lightning have been calculated at 1 in 700,000...

Hello Flossie would you say that, if they were your relatives or friends that it had happened to i wonder ?
Perhaps ive misunderstood your comment, if i have please clarify to me your meaning ?

I would say that in areas that are known for extreme and unpredictable weather conditions (eg Australia) this can happen quite a lot. And maybe I was being a tad - frivolous. That also happens.
