Biting Cheeks

Does anyone else bite the inside of their cheeks?

It occasionally happens when eating, but occurs more often during sleep. Once the area is sore it's more likely to happen because the inflamed area gets trapped between the back teeth when my mouth is shut.

Thought I'd just got fat cheeks, but when I searched for it the net is full of cheeky biters.

I do it too, but thought it was to do with old age and sagging jowels, probably more to do with eating too fast in my case though.

lol..

if you have teeth missing it can be a sign that your jaw is out of line ..

or can be a sign of anaemia...

I've got a couple of back teeth missing, but have had for donkey's years. The jaw doesn't seem out of line. I'm not anaemic either. I think it's fat cheek syndrome. :)x

I can't happen too many times then Melo, you're a woman...your mouth isn't shut very often! :)

My apologies to all the ladies, I just couldn't resist!

The answer to your question Melo is "yes", I do bite the inside of my cheek from time to time (and it hurts!), but I spend most of my time biting my tongue!

I do it, but for me it's deliberate - I think it's a nervous comfort thing.
As part of my Fibromyalgia I suffer from TMJD which means my jaw is a bit wonky - I often bite my tongue unintentionally as a result...

Hiero - there's many a time I should bite my tongue!

I bite my tongue too sometimes. Then there's that little web of skin on the inside of the lower lip that can get caught in your front teeth. That hasn't happened for a long time, but used to when I was a child.

This made me laugh:

My son and his dad have TMJD.. at least I think that's what it's called. Their jaw clicks really loud when the eat and it can lock painfully.

Hi Mel, I am also afflicted with this problem. Also bite my lip on occasions, and the following ulcer inevitably spreads round the inside of my lip, and is sooo painful.

Oooh that does sound painful Jools. I don't think mine ulcerates, it's just a sore area. Rather than sink inwards like an ulcer, its slightly raised like it's been pinched between my teeth.

Just started this week, as had an hour-long session in the dentist's chair on Monday (having work done on my teeth!!!) and it is quite painful.

I don't think it's fat cheek syndrome, Melo, as I don't bite the insides of my chubby cheeks.
