Cars and Neighbours

Ive been into cars for a very long time, initiated by my Dad. I cant remember a time when Ive had less then 10.

The only problem with this hobby is neighbours. Where ever Ive lived the neighbours just cant understand having more than one car.

So why are neighbours so against anyone having a car collection (all in good nick and neatly parked in the drive) ?

And what can I do to lessen any objections (apart from not having them) !

I should add that I dont rev them up in the drive, nor do they make any noise, even when Im working on them...

Most neighbours I know would class 10 cars in a residential area as a scrap yard.

Depends on how big your drive is I suppose... lol

If you live in a country manor house with half a mile of neatly gravelled driveway - not a problem!

If you live in a heavily built up area and your tiny front garden is your drive - now that's a problem!

I can only assume its because people dont want to look at what looks like a car park next door/across the road etc.

Unfortunately Maddog I too sympathise with your neighbours and anyone in the immediate vicinity wishing to sell - for reasons already mentioned.

What about collecting Lego? :))xx

i guess it depends on the state of the vehs in question, and are they all parked on your own land or do you park some on the road thus taking up neighbour parking spaces? perhaps they thinnk you are running a business from home?

If you are really serious about owning cars, why dont you rent a unit on an industrial estate, or perhaps hire out an old warehouse that nobody else is using.

I would think not only your neighbours, but your local authority also, wouldnt be overly impressed with somebody accumulating so much metal in one street.

There's a guy in the next road from me, bit of an eccentric who collects Honda motorbikes from the 80's & 90's I've even sold him a few + earnt a bit in the way of a 'finders fee' over the years. The locals are always moaning about him too...

All his bikes (he must have at least 30) in the grounds his privately owned bungalow are all covered-up, he never works on them or revs them up, in fact he keeps himself to himself most of the time, buys a couple, sells one etc.

Yet, no one moans about people with 'long-term' project boats/yachts in their gardens, that 'some' quite frankly are wreaks! A flippin' eyesore.
The problem is with storage like a unit/warehouse is you are liable for rates etc. even though it's storage only

You need to pray that a neighbour doesnt get the Environment Agency interested in you, with ten cars next door, I would. then you could have a licence to handle them, only around £1,000 a year maybe
