I think my friends would say I'm attractive - apparently I don't look my age (!) - and a good mum, with a well-developed and dry sense of humour which is never far away. I'm more-or-less a full-time mum, although I have a couple of part-time as-and-when jobs and do plenty of voluntary work, both at the childrens' school and elsewhere.

Naturally, I'd like to meet someone special, to find romance and, hopefully to have a long-term relationship, but just as important is to make new friends. I'd like to meet people who are genuine, sincere, kind and caring - and who share my sense of humour...

My hobbies and interests

Cooking	I love cooking and entertaining - and I'm a good cook, she said, modestly - but sadly, I cook and entertain as I once did. The children eat fairly plain food, despite my best efforts to get them to try new things, so it's only when I entertain that I really get chance to get the recipe books out. As for favourite styles and dishes - don't really have any. What I cook depends on my mood - and what's in season!
Shopping	I'm not really a shopper. I can't stand shopping for clothes - even for the children. I hate it when they grow out of things and I have to buy new ones! Traipsing round a shopping centre on a Saturday afternoon looking at dresses - or curtains - or anything - is not me. Funnily enough, I don't mind grocery shopping - must be something to do with the fact that I like cooking - and eating...
DIY	Not really handy, although I can assemble tables, etc. My late husband wasn't terribly handy either. Nowadays I just SOS someone else!
Housework	Housework has to be done - and by me at the moment, since I lost my cleaner. I keep the house clean and try and keep it tidy (not always easy with children around) - but it's not top of my list of things to do.
Dining out	Of course I like to eat out - who doesn't? These days it seems it's more likely to be a family-friendly diner than an intimate restaurant, but I live in hope! As for favourite foods and dishes - I'll eat most things, depends on my mood (and the quality of the various establishments on offer, of course)!
Movies	I enjoy going to the pictures, but never seem to get as often as I like. My all-time favourite film is an oldie - Brief Encounter. I'd consider going to see most things, but nothing too violent or horrific.
Theatre	Yes, I love going to the theatre and have just discovered a little gem of a place about 20 miles away so I'm going even more often. I've never seen the point of going to watch something really heavy and depressing - I can stay at home and get miserable on my own for nothing - but am happy to go to most things. The last thing I saw was The Importance of Being Earnest - it was hilarious.
Music	I like most types of music - literally anything from classical to heavy metal, it depends on my mood - but I am not a fan of jazz at all. I don't know who are my favourites - how can you compare Beethoven with the Beatles?
Gigs	Not really a gig-goer any more - sometimes they can be just too loud. These days I'm much more likely to have my live music in the form of a classical concert - or maybe a choral concert in which my choir is performing!
Pubs	I'll go to the pub occasionally and usually enjoy it when I do, but it's not as frequent as it once was.
Clubbing	Behind me, I think!!
Newspapers and magazines	I read the Daily or Sunday Telegraph every day. Most months I'll get the Sainsbury's Magazine and sometimes Good Housekeeping.
Books	Sadly I don't get to read as much as I once did, but I do enjoy curling up with a book when I can. I've recently read The Life of Pi and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which I never read as a child. Next on the list is the autobiography of Oliver Postgate (of Ivor the Engine and Bagpuss fame) and then I might try for a classic - maybe something by Dickens. I'd recommend The Kite Runner - it was the first book I read after I joined my book group and it's fantastic.
TV	Hardly watch any TV at all - when I do, it's likely to be University Challenge, Mastermind or the news. I'd be lost without Radio 4, though.
Watching sport	I've been to my share of football, cricket and rugby matches in the past - and have always enjoyed them - but if I never went to another one it wouldn't bother me unduly. I hope to get some tickets for something - anything - at the Olympics though, so the children can tell their children that they went.
Playing sport	My main sport is swimming; I try and go two or three times a week. We also like walking when we get the chance and the children are both very good at ice skating, so I will go very slowly round the rink behind them.
Hobbies	I love quizzes - and I set them as well as participating. My other main hobby is singing - I'm a first soprano with a local choral society. I'm also learning to play bridge and still love playing board games.

My hopes and dreams

In ten years I see myself	I don't know. I lost my husband just over a year ago and I am living proof that you don't know what's round the corner. All I can hope for is that my children and I are happy and settled - but where we will be and what we will be doing is anyone's guess.
Who would I invite to a dinner party?	I presume I can't invite my late husband? Probably not. But there might be some interesting discussions between Hitler, Jesus Christ and Shakespeare.
My ideal date	An intimate dinner for two, good food, good wine, attentive service, no worries about driving home - maybe on an outdoor balcony on a warm evening - with maybe Roger Black for company? Oh, and he'd bring me flowers, as well!
What would I never, ever give up?	My children - for obvious reasons.
If I had to give a speech on a subject I was passionate about ...	The WAY Foundation - a charitable self-help group for people who are Widowed and Young.
If I could visit anywhere in the world at any time in history	After some thought - probably Berlin on 9 November 1989. I've visited Germany more times than any other country and can remember vividly watching the TV, crying my eyes out, as the Wall came down. The first place I ever visited abroad was Moscow in the late 1970s so I knew a bit about life under the Soviet regime and I was just so happy for the East Germans who had suddenly gained their freedom.
If I had a million pounds to give to charity	I might be tempted to give it to wildlife, as I remember reading somewhere that "for three-quarters of a million pounds we could save the tiger" - and I think that would be very worthwhile - but there are so many competing and worthwhile demands. Probably a charity which helped children in some way.
My "and finally" section ...	As well as my two children, I share the house with a cat. And if there is such a thing as reincarnation, I am coming back as a much-loved domestic cat. Either that or an octopus (that way I would have four pairs of hands)...
