My hobbies and interests

Cooking	I enjoy preparing food with a partner, it's not so much fun doing it alone. I adore Indian and Italian food.
Shopping	Shopping is the act of purchasing essentials. I completely abhor our western totally destructive and narcissistic consumerist / materialistic "culture"
DIY	I'd rather not destroy my home, thanks.
Housework	I occasionally take the Dyson for a walk.
Dining out	It's a rare treat, best done with someone special.
Movies	I love intelligent films. Alas, they are quite rare. Despite a former girlfriend describing me as the world's least romantic man, my fave film of all time in "Singin' in the Rain". That's probably an aberration. Give me Tarkovsky over Hollywood any day.
Theatre	I discovered art cinema before I discovered the theatre, so it never got a look in.
Music	Give me a good tune and an intelligent lyric and I'm happy. Prefer singer-songwriters like Richard Thompson, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, etc. Still stuck in 1970s prog rock too. Music playing as I write this is Split Enz's "Stranger than Fiction". ("who? what?" I hear you cry)
Gigs	It's been a while since I have, alas.
Pubs	Once in a blue moon.
Clubbing	No ta.
Newspapers and magazines	I read the Grauniad on a Saturday - its TV guide is a convenient size :-) Fortean Times and New Scientist are my fave mags. I'm more of a blogaholic than a newspaper reader.
Books	Stuff which makes me think. I hate being forced to choose a fave, but honourable mention has to go to Doris Lessing, Hermann Hesse (especially "The Glass Bead Game"), and Thomas Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow". And loads of non-fiction.
TV	Despite the TV guide above, I rarely watch the box. Prefer programmes which educate or exercise my mind and imagination.
Watching sport	I'll watch the occasional international rugby match, usually to support my team (the All Blacks)
Playing sport	Nope
Hobbies	In my younger years I was an electronics enthusiast; I'm passionate about our planet and what we're doing to it (sob sob, how could we?)

My hopes and dreams

In ten years I see myself	On a habitable planet (the odds aren't looking too good)
Who would I invite to a dinner party?	John Michael Greer, Derrick Jensen, and Sharon Astyk (the party's theme is going to be the desirability, the how and the why of our civilisation's collapse)
My ideal date	A walk by the river
What would I never, ever give up?	Can we make that two? It's a tough choice between my daughter and tea :-p
If I had to give a speech on a subject I was passionate about ...	The total destructiveness of our materialistic consumerist lifestyles (rant, rave)
If I could visit anywhere in the world at any time in history	St Petersburg, now. No idea why, but I've wanted to for a long time.
If I had a million pounds to give to charity	Unfortunately, there isn't a charity which promises to rid the world of the banksters and politicians
My "and finally" section ...	I'm completely and utterly mad. Why else would I be here?
