My hobbies and interests

Cooking	Yes - wide range of interests but especially Italian and wild game ( which I can prepare myself - a la Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall!) Also Far Eastern.
Shopping	Enjoy it for Books, CDs etc ( although now largely online due to HUGE choice) Also, as I consider myself quite stylish, to some degree, for smart clothes. Also for food as I'm a real foodie. (All meat must be ethically produced as I'm passionate about animal welfare!)
DIY	Not really - would have a go at simple tasks but prefer to bring in the professionals when necessary.
Housework	Tidy - consider I have a "Home" not simply a box to live in as some men do! Try for the country gentleman's style.
Dining out	Yes. Favouries are wild game ( because of superior taste and more ethical production methods.) Prefer savoury to desserts.
Movies	Enjoy some of today's films but really prefer quality films from yesteryear. Favourite movie of all time - " Random Harvest" with Ronald Coleman and Greer Garson. In more recent times - " Last of the Mohicans", " Master and Commander" " The Patriot" " Dances with Wolves". Do NOT like horror!
Theatre	Enjoy the theatre - varied tastes. Thrillers, dramas, musicals. (Seen " Mamma Mia" on stage 3 times.)
Music	Very varied tastes. Like some classical, some country, Heart and Abba for rock music. Some New Age compositions. Prefer ballads - Sinatra, Doris Day, Nat king Cole and so on.
Gigs	Abba tribute bands occasionally. Other solo artists like Tom Jones.
Pubs	Prefer to be at home - but country pubs OK occasionally especially since smoking ban.
Clubbing	Not interested. Like quieter venues where you can have a good chat - and actually hear what people are saying!!
Newspapers and magazines	Various papers, not regularly."BBC wildlife" magazine " Shooting Times" "The Field" " Country Life" and so on.
Books	Very keen reader and book collector. ( Probably paying the wages of at least 1 employee at Amazon!) Enjoy fiction and non-fiction on many subjects but principally natural history and social history.
TV	Sometimes - very little now of interest, sadly. Prefer documentaries and good drama ( esp period.) Intensely dislike "reality" TV and " celebrity" culture!
Watching sport	No interest in mainstream sport (Definately can't see what all the fuss is about. David who???)
Playing sport	Interested in country sports. May take up clay pigeon shooting this year.
Hobbies	Watching wildlife. Participate in historical re-enactments. ( Domestic rather than warfare.) Enjoyed being a reader for the " talking newspaper" for the visually impaired and may resume doing this.

My hopes and dreams

In ten years I see myself	Retired - more leisure time for doing the things I really want to do!
Who would I invite to a dinner party?	Gerald Durrell, Julia Bradbury, Sophie Raworth
My ideal date	Afternoon walk in Autumn countryside then on the seashore at sunset and then a cosy dinner.
What would I never, ever give up?	Reading - because it expands the mind and can transport you anywhere.
If I had to give a speech on a subject I was passionate about ...	Nature conservation. Because it is hugely important and is being allowed to slip away without notice by far too many people!
If I could visit anywhere in the world at any time in history	Kentucky in America about 1750 - always imagined myself as Hawkeye in " Last of the Mohicans" and would love that lifestyle of living in nature in such glorious scenery. ( and especially if Madeleine Stowe was availble for me...)
If I had a million pounds to give to charity	Protection of the Rainforests ( and forests in general)and the Seas - vital for the survival of all life. And ignored at our peril. And animal protection worldwide - because they are too often dismissed as being of lesser importance than ourselves and far too many suffer dreadfully at our hands without experiencing a single gesture of kindness!
