About me

People have described me variously as intelligent, direct, energetic, practical, cultured, perceptive and caring. I'd probably add pig-headed at times, too independent for my own good and with all the diplomatic skills of a sledgehammer!

I like good conversation, debate, banter and silliness, but am also quite comfortable with my own company when I choose. I can be very determined and enjoy challenges, reluctant to admit defeat (that's the pig-headed bit!)

Love nature and the outdoors; walking in the Peak District, digging the garden or just picnics by a river somewhere. I'm a regular, though not obsessive gym-goer and try to eat healthily most of the time. Love vegetarian dishes and fish/seafood, but wouldn't be able to refuse a bacon and black pudding sarnie if you offered me one!

I'm equally at home in the city and love the Arts. I'm a big fan of the cinema (especially the independent ones), architecture and visiting art galleries. However, I have real problems with traditional theatre - just can't suspend my disbelief. I keep trying though.

I've done a fair amount of travelling, but would like to do much more. Prefer adventure/discovery/cultural type holidays to 2 weeks by a pool somewhere. Also enjoy weekends away: Paris/Scarborough, posh hotel/caravan - I'm very adaptable!

Dislikes? Bigots, europhobes, stickers on fruit, James Bond films.

Prefer starters to puddings, Indian to Chinese, McEwan to Amis, Blues to C&W.

This kind of thing can only ever be a snapshot, but enough to give you an idea about what makes me tick, I hope. If any of this strikes a chord and you'd like to know more, feel free to get in touch. I always reply to messages. I don't usually respond to the hugs/kisses stuff when there's no message attached though.

About you

I'm interested in making new friends initially. Having been on here for some time now, I have few expectations of anything more......then again, you never know, do you?

Who can really say what it is that makes people click? Sharing some common ground is important, but differences can be stimulating too.

A sense of adventure, social conscience, cheeky sense of humour and a lively, enquiring mind; having any or all of these (in my dreams!) would certainly hit a few buttons.

If you're after specifics, I'd say I'm generally attracted to strong (not just physically), articulate men, who are comfortable in their own skin without being complacent, and confident without feeling the need to point score.
