About me

I am honest, kind, gentle, polite, tactile, demonstrative, straightforward and uncomplicated but an incorrigible romantic.

I love all animals, especially dogs and horses (have 2 of each). I'm also fond of children but have an irrational fear of nappies that causes me to want to flee if I see, or even hear, a baby.

A scientist by training, I also enjoy the arts, especially music - I'm a former sessions guitarist and still like to play
most days. I relinquished an academic career shortly after being doctored and spent most of the following 25 years working as a freelance consultant on international development projects all over the world, specialising in environmentally sustainable agricultural and rural development. In the process, I have learned to appreciate life's wonderful little quirks and have
developed a sense of the ridiculous that helps prevent me from taking anything, especially myself, too seriously.

I'm a young forty-twelve and most friends and relatives say I look like Jesus or John Lennon. Can you imagine? If not, photos available on request.

Now more-or-less retired, I divide my time between the New Forest and SW France, where I play at Bob-the-Builder - provided it isn't too cold, or too wet, or the sky isn't too blue .... If it's the latter, I'm usually wandering around my 40 acres of fields and woods with two dogs, shooting all the wildlife (with a camera, of course). Either way, I lead an active outdoor life mercifully free of the need for organised sports and exercise regimes. With the Pyrenees ski slopes only an hour away, though, I might develop an interest when I have more time to spare. I also love cooking and would rather do the ironing than watch TV soaps or, indeed, almost any French TV except Arte.

After a hard day's work, I long to stretch out in the tub, sipping chilled Montrachet, and gaze across the balcon as the evening sun turns the snowy mountain peaks from gold to rose and the deer emerge from the woods to feed in the meadows. Need to finish the en-suite and balcon first, unfortunately, so until then I have to make do with the shower in the basement ...

About you

I'm looking for a normal, gentle, loving, intelligent, imaginative, well-balanced, confident woman. Someone I can lavish affection on, that doesn't mind holding hands in public, stealing kisses in doorways and generally acting like a (well-behaved) teenager. Candlelit dinners with old-fashioned wines. Conversation. Humour. Failing that, someone who knows where I can find an intelligent dog to borrow when I am in the UK ....
