I'm a vegan belly dancer who's into novels (mainly 18th & 19th century but Harry Potter too) and astronomy. Favourite film is Apollo 13, favourite tv is Red Dwarf, favourite book is Pride & Prejudice, favourite drink is champagne and favourite hero is Nelson Mandela.

I've just come back on MSE after a couple of years away from it so I'm looking to chat a little and maybe to meet up with someone now and then. I recently split up with my boyfriend so I'm not looking for anything heavy, more a case of see how things go.

My hobbies and interests

Cooking	I love cooking, although it can be a chore sometimes. There's just something so special about vegan food though, all the glowing colours of the veg in your shopping trolley or on your chopping board.
Shopping	Bleugh! Hate shopping. Just too many people. The only thing I do enjoy about it is having a good trolley surf.
DIY	Not bad. I'm a reluctant DIYer, I can do it, I just don't enjoy it. I could be dancing instead fgs.
Housework	A necessary chore, but I try to keep the place reasonable. Clutter bothers me so I tend to run a tidy house as far as possible.
Dining out	I love eating out and just wish there were more dedicated vegan restaurants around.
Movies	I don't tend to go to the cinema and it has to be an incredibly special movie to get me there. The Harry Potter movies are a definite 'yes' though.
Theatre	As with the cinema, I'm fussy about the theatre too, although anything that will make me laugh stands a good shot.
Music	Techno and trance at the moment, some rock and some pop too.
Gigs	I quite like pub bands but it depends on the band of course. Any recommends welcome.
Pubs	A nice bar with cheap lager, no kids and some vegan wines is my idea of a really nice day or evening out - so long as the company is good.
Clubbing	I first went clubbing in my late teens and hated it. I still do. Music I love. Loud music I especially love, but in clubs it's beyond loud.
Newspapers and magazines	I adore The Vegan, Vegan Views, Astronomy Now, New Scientist and Mosaic (belly dance magazine).
Books	My favourite author is Jane Austen but I also read Jo Rowling, Sir Walter Scott, Agatha Christie, P G Wodehouse, Baroness Orczy, H G Wells, Wilkie Collins, Oscar Wilde, Dickens, Elizabeth Gaskell and a few others. Contemporary fiction I tend to find boring.
TV	I like comedy so end up on Dave later on most evenings in case they have a re-run I've not seen too often. I also like The IT Crowd, Ask Rhod Gilbert, Red Dwarf, Frasier, Will & Grace, and Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow. I like How Do They Do It and Mythbusters as I like to know how things work, and I'll watch pretty much anything on astronomy or ancient Egypt. Reality tv and football are two things never seen in my house.
Watching sport	I can watch tennis or snooker but have no particular desire to. I do love F1 though - cute guys in fast cars, you can't go wrong!
Playing sport	I belly dance, that's my 'sport'.
Hobbies	Belly dancing is one of my biggest passions, along with human and animal rights activism.

My hopes and dreams

In ten years I see myself	Er ...
Who would I invite to a dinner party?	Nelson Mandela for gravitas and just to listen to him, John Barrowman because he's so upbeat, and Jason Lewis for the sex later.
My ideal date	A nice vegan meal followed by some great sex (we'd come home from the restaurant first).
What would I never, ever give up?	My veganism, it's one of the things that defines me, it's passion and compassion.
If I had to give a speech on a subject I was passionate about ...	Anything human or animal rights related.
If I could visit anywhere in the world at any time in history	Anywhere - 100, 200, 500 and 1000 years in the future. I'd love to see the future, and especially the space travel of the future.
If I had a million pounds to give to charity	I'd give it to the RSPCA but only on condition that they admit their freedom foods involve just as much cruelty and death to the animals as any other kind of animal products, and that they stop killing rescued pets.
