About me
Classical tastes. Sober in dress and manner, belying an extrovert, broad-minded, humorous, witty interior. I am sociable, kind, supportive and encouraging, with loads of good ideas and willingness to help. I am very fond of language and languages (German, Italian and French). I'm a bit fussy about words, mainly because I care a lot not to be misunderstood, so if you don't care whether your words say quite what you mean, we'll be off the rails in no time.
I play the piano, not as well as I would like to, but I'm working on it. I generally play 19th century romantic stuff, often at midnight, although I would be more considerate if I weren't alone.
If you can play Rachmaninov's 3rd Piano Concerto, I'll be in awe, enthusiastic and not jealous. If you are fond of it to listen to, I am very interested in you. Ditto Liszt's Sonata, Chopin's Fantasy in F minor.
If you would like to play duets or chamber music, so would I.
I am OK about good quality popular music. If you think you know what I mean, you are probably the right sort.
I am very unlikely to say anything hurtful or disparaging, or to reject you. If I say anything that makes you wonder, ask me what I meant. I dread misunderstandings. If we have a lot of them, we are just not on a wavelength.
I like children (had 2 lots of 2 myself), and love being good fun for them. I care deeply that they should have fun in childhood, and learn good social skills, as well as academic ones. I haven't had enough of being Dad, yet, although I have no desire to interfere with a partner's children's relationship with their real Dad. I'll be your devoted best friend. I don't play games or hard to get, or mess you about. And if you play hard to get or mysterious, we won't last long. Two-timing is out. I shan't be jealous of your friends, but that's because we know we don't cheat each other. I live in a quiet Gloucestershire village, near the M50 not far from Herefordshire.
I have been computing for a living for many years. Love good coffee (and croissants for breakfast). Vegetarian(+fish)=pescatarian?
About you
(Do your best with these!) The following reads like a pretty exacting requirement. Please read it in a different sense: Be encouraged by the bits you like, and be slow to be put off by the bits that you don't match. I'd be thrilled to find many of these qualities.
You are moderately energetic.
You are intelligent, kind, and understanding. (I can't be my best all the time).
You have a lively mind. (I did mis-type 'with a lovely mind' – that would be good, too). That doesn't necessarily mean you have an extensive education.
You have a liking for classical music (as opposed to pop/rock and modern variations of popular music).
You are fond of words, and probably like literature or poetry, or theatre. You have a good vocabulary.
You probably like Radio3. Perhaps you play a musical instrument or sing, not necessarily expertly.
You are encouraging and supportive emotionally, and you can expect me to be the same.
You can see the funny side of things. It would be nice if you can do that when things get tough.
Wit would be nice, but is not essential.
You have an outgoing personality, even if shyness holds you back. I can be encouraging. If this in-your-face list doesn't offend you, we might well be suited.
You desire physical contact – holding hands – cuddles – snuggling up, watching a movie.
You can laugh out loud, and don't mind if I do (which I most certainly do).
You wouldn't mind laughing at my jokes now and again – you'll have plenty of opportunity.
You like children. You are interested in them and what they need to grow up confident, happy and with good skills, social practical and academic.
You are generally good at doing things. Driving, perhaps. You don't expect to be waited on, as I don't. You might get waited on, though, by your loving partner. Even-Stevens would be nice.
Vegetarian not essential.
TURN-OFFS.
POSSIBLE TURN-OFF: Make-up (depends on subtlety).
MEDIUM TURN-OFFS:
Hair-dos that look like hair-dos.
Overweight. High heels. Watching soap-operas on TV. Being keen on pop music, such as pop radio stations play. Probably even Radio2 is a counter-indication. Indignation. Over-fussiness at home. I am semi-tidy, or can be (Ahem).
BIG TURN-OFFS:
Anger. Tantrums. Rudeness. Snobbery. Bossiness. Put-downs. Smoking. Boozing and drunkenness. (I don't mind if you drink, as long it doesn't turn you into Mr Hyde – I'll drive).
